ON SPEC. ON TIME. ON BUDGET
Protecting You, Your Vision and Your Budget
Whether you are hands-on or monitoring from a distance, JMS New Build Managers track quality, technical spec, progress and execution on every aspect of your build providing you with as much or as little reporting as you wish – always ensuring that your interests, your vision and your budget are respected by the multiple parties involved in helping to bring your dream to reality
Before the yacht building contract is signed, the Owners team, Owner, broker, Marine Lawyers and JMS negotiate the technical specification and the yacht build contract. JMS advises the team on the technical aspects of the build contract and the build specification in its entirety.
The yacht is paid in stages tied to milestones, which JMS verifies before recommending payments. We assist with Owner-requested changes, negotiate change orders, track them, and manage the acquisition of Owner’s supplies and any additional experts or inspectors required. Six months before delivery, the crew is phased in, while JMS provides budgets and submits monthly reports to the Owner.
With planning complete and contracts signed, the required on-site resources become clear. JMS starts consultancy for smaller projects or early stages, scaling to full-time management on larger builds, while working alongside advisers like the Owner’s representatives, broker, designer, and crew. We coordinate regular shipyard meetings to review progress and resolve outstanding issues with all parties involved.

Each month, we provide a detailed progress report available online 24/7 with quality control advice, technical recommendations, and suggested improvements. We address issues as they arise to ensure smooth progress. A JMS Project Manager would visit the yard several times monthly for meetings and inspections, with additional off-site work for preparation and review.
As the project nears completion, the crew must be coordinated, final fitting-out arranged, and sea trials organised and monitored. Operating budgets, accounting procedures, safety systems, security plans, and MLC documentation will be finalised, with crew training underway. This final phase involves detailed quality control, acceptance checks, and frequent coordination with the shipyard. It also includes negotiating the closing details to ensure a smooth handover of the yacht.
From delivery, the Owner and Captain will need full financial, safety, and security management support. JMS provides a comprehensive service, handling warranty issues and ensuring maximum yacht availability. We will prepare an operational proposal closer to the delivery date. Building a yacht is complex, but with strong communication, attention to detail, and a focus on quality, JMS ensures the process is successful and enjoyable.
