James proudly calls Barcelona home. Originally from Nottingham and raised in Cambridgeshire, England, it has been over two decades since he last lived in the UK, his journey has since taken him across continents and into the heart of the yachting world.
After completing his studies in Media, James pursued educational roles abroad, working in both the USA and Norway. His path soon shifted toward the maritime world in the early 2000s, when he entered the seagoing side of the yachting industry, a decision that shaped the trajectory of his professional life.
Rising steadily through the ranks, James advanced from deckhand to Chief Officer on vessels up to 100 metres (328 feet) , and ultimately to Captain, commanding yachts in the 60-meter range. His most recent command was aboard a 55 metres (180 feet) charter vessel. Alongside earning his MCA Master 3000GT licence and other key certifications, James developed a deep reservoir of hands-on experience, particularly over the past decade aboard high-demand and dual-season charter yachts. These years at sea equipped him with comprehensive, practical expertise in operating ISM, ISPS, and MLC-compliant vessels to the highest standards.
“I consider myself fortunate to have served as a Captain in such a dynamic and prestigious industry. The experience has shaped me both professionally and personally, and prepared me well for my current role ashore in yacht management, where I’ve been working for the past year.”
Outside of work, James is passionate about personal growth, including language learning and exploring new cultures. He maintains an active lifestyle and enjoys a wide range of sports, particularly climbing, paddle boarding, hiking, and cycling activities that reflect his adventurous spirit and commitment to wellbeing.
